Character: Christo
Canon: Disgaea 5, post-game
Age: 2147

Background Information: Wiki link!

I would like to note that, while the wiki there is playing both sides as to whether or not Christo is a younger Lamington, DisgaeaRPG all but confirms it, pointing out that Lamington was more wild when he was younger, that D5 took place far in the past compared to the other games, and by having Lamington as the only non-Disgaea 5 unit he has an increased team attack chance with (something the game frequently does when there are multiple versions of the same character in the game). This is all in addition to the ending alluding to him being involved in an incident involving the Human World, Netherworld, and Celestia; his alternate color palette in Lamington's colors;the same ultimate skill; shared Japanese VAs; and the fact that "Christo" is noted to only be a code name.

Personality: In many ways, Christo doesn't match the typical personality one might expect an angel to have. He has a dry wit and a sharp tongue, and can be absolutely ruthless when putting a plan into motion, making use of enemy and ally alike if it means reaching his desired goal. He can also be prone to arrogance at times, frequently referring to himself as a "genius angel" in inner monologues.

That isn't to say he's heartless, however. While more than happy to use the protagonists of Disgaea 5 as pawns and meat shields in order to enact his revenge at the start of the game, as he gets to know them he begins to empathize with them more and more, coming to consider them friends, as well as rethink his prejudices towards demons on the whole, calling the cast "irreplaceable" and using them as inspiration to one day bring demons and angels together as friends. He's even willing to throw away his one chance to absolve himself of suspicion of being a spy and defeat his enemy in order to prevent several Netherworlds from being destroyed in the process... by threatening to reveal Celestia's coordinates to the enemy in question if they so much as think of firing the weapon they were planning to use at Void Dark.

Funnily enough, despite his tactical abilities and penchant for manipulation, Christo is a truly awful liar when he's put on the spot, frequently stuttering and half-letting slip truths before he manages to catch himself.

In addition, though he's known for keeping a cool head and remaining both logical and analytical under pressure, he is known to bottle up his troubles and keep them all to himself until they threaten to boil over, leading to rash behavior and the occasional frustrated outburst.

Abilities & Inventory: The four items Christo will be coming in with, clothes on his back aside, are a staff, a bow, some cheap-ass demon costume horns, and a flip phone that won't work in Reverein.

As for abilities...

  • Healing Magic: As an angel, Christo is highly skilled with healing magic, able to knit the wounds of several people at once and cure poisons with ease. In Songerein, while he should still be able to heal wounds of individuals with ease, I'd like for him to have to get used to dreamotion in order to master any sort of AoE heals.

  • Other Magic: Christo is capable of bringing up a magical circle of sorts that can fire arrows of light (Piercing Light), as well as a skill that calls forth his angelic magic and concentrates it into a large beam of destructive energy toward the earth (Gospel of Power). If allowed, Gospel of Power can only be used while dreamwalking and will kick him out of the dream and knock him out for several days up to a week upon use, meaning he (and I) will have to choose carefully when to make use of it.

  • Enfeebling Magic: Christo has access to the spells Enfeeble, Mind Break, Armor Break, and Resist Break, which lower an enemy's strength, magic attack, defense, and magic defense respectively. I plan to nerf these down to only being able to be cast on a single target at a time.

  • Flight: Though he keeps them hidden, Christo has two pairs of large, white wings that he can use to fly.

  • Clairvoyance: Christo's special ability (Overload) is called Occhi Clairvoyance (Evangel of Purity by the end of Chapter 11). Disregarding the in-game effects in favor for how it's portrayed in the story, Christo's Clairvoyance makes it possible for him to detect magical energy from long distances or to track specific energy signatures that he's familiar with. While this ability will lack its usual accuracy at the start of his arrival in Reverein, leading him only to the approximate location of what or whoever he's looking for, as he grows used to dreamotion and its ebb and flow, he will be able to be more precise with this ability.

Suitability & Plans: Honestly, Songerein has so many different demons from so many different canons, I felt like tossing in an angel to balance things out. Similar-yet-different universes are a blast to play out, and if someone from the other Disgaea games comes in, that's the ice cream on the cake.

That's not to say that he needs castmates to flourish! As a tactician I can see him being a great boon in any situation where the people of Reverein need to fight, and his Clairvoyance can be put to great use when needing to search for specific items or people. Outside of battle, as someone who likes to have as much information at his disposal as possible, he's likely to stick his nose in plenty of places and get dragged into shenanigans both serious and humorous.

Test Drive Sample: TDM Top Level

Questions: Angels in Disgaea have the ability to cure any illness or affliction using their blood. However, it is important to note that doing so is strictly forbidden, as is letting anyone else know that they have this ability. While I feel it's important to note in the ability section, this is not an ability I plan to make use of lightly, nor is it one that Christo himself would use as anything but a last resort. He didn't even use it in-game when dealing with a blood-powered ability, choosing to cure it with angelic magic instead.

While I think it might be interesting to have it around for something huge in a plot just in case, would this property of his blood even be allowed? Or would this fall into the same sort of basket as vampires not needing to drink blood in Reverein?
